Dark Souls gameplay is based on exploring the game world by moving through various locations that are seamlessly connected to each other. Bonfires, located in several locations (sometimes there are none at all), serve as a place of rest, with the help of which you can level up, restore health and replenish the flask with estus (analog of a first aid kit), move to another location, improve or repair equipment. Bonfires have become one of the symbols of the game, being one of the few places where the player can feel safe, gather his thoughts and prepare to move forward, but resting by the fire revives all enemies in the game world, except for bosses and mini-bosses. Hostile and neutral non-player characters are present at almost every location. With neutral characters, communication is done by one-way dialog, in which the player is sometimes given a choice between two responses.
