Returning to the topic - Tartaria. Who are tartars? When are they destroyed? Many questions to which researchers are looking for answers. Association "Protohistory" became available rare books of the 18th century "Description of all the peoples inhabiting the Russian lands." This work is interesting because it was originally published in English in 1779 in London and only in 1790 did the Russian edition appear. At the same time, during the transfer, the tartares were replaced with Tatars. In addition, the people are described - Arians (Ari). In order to track all the changes, the Association "Protohistory" in the library in one lot for downloading placed both editions at once, each of which includes 4 volumes. It should be noted that this work is not about “learning” and stories. This work was prepared - Johann Georgi (1729–1802) - born German, medic, ethnographer, naturalist, chemist, traveler, professor of mineralogy and academician of the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences. Participated in the expeditions of Pallas and Falk, for many years engaged in the study of the Volga region, the Middle and Southern Urals, Siberia and the Altai Mountains, Baikal and the Baikal region. The result of the long-term ethnographic studies of Georgi was a detailed illustrated description of the peoples inhabiting Russia. The work has incorporated extensive and detailed material on history and ethnography, obtained by the author himself. For the first time in one book, information was collected and systematized on various aspects of the culture and life of nations. Of particular value, in addition to detailed ethnographic descriptions, of course, are colorful illustrations that give a complete picture of the appearance, lifestyle, crafts and national costume of all peoples and tribes inhabiting the territory of Russia. The work can rightly be recognized as the benchmark of ethnographic research.
